Models Go Naked for Mali the Elephant
Mali, the long-time resident elephant of Manila Zoo, is getting more protectors asking for her freedom – this time from sexy models and celebrities who’ve gone naked for a photoshoot sponsored by PETA.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals Asia (PETA) is clamoring for attention on the issue, and by asking the models to strip for the cause while holding cards calling for Mali’s freedom, they sure are getting it.
The models and celebrities who’ve posed for ‘freedom for Mali’ include Daiana Menezes, Geneva Cruz, Amanda Griffin, Ornusa Cadness, Bianca Valerio, Sheena Vera Cruz, Mia Ayesa, Sanya Smith and Julia Sniegowski.
They are supporting the old elephant’s transfer to a better environment, away from her decades-long captivity in Manila Zoo. PETA has prepared an online petition with more than 60,000 signatures that want Mali to be taken out of solitary confinement where the poor elephant has been getting sickly. The group suggests that she be moved to a sanctuary in Thailand which has lots of space where she can roam along with other elephants.
PETA’s controversial tactics in making attention-grabbing ads has made them infamous, and this nude photoshoot is just the latest in their attempts. Photographer Niccolo Cosme handled the shoot with the help of some celebrity make-up artists.
President PNoy Aquno has caught notice of the situation and has ordered a review of Mali’s zoo conditions after he was called by high-profile people like French film sexy icon Brigitte Bardot, Nobel Prize winner J.M. Coetzee, and wildlife conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall.
